New Jersey Coalition Adopts Oure Cassoni Refugee Camp

During the past six years of conflict women and girls have been beaten and raped as a strategic tactic used by the Sudanese government and Janjaweed militia in their mass scale genocide of the Darfuri people. When women leave the refugee camps to find wood to cook food they put their life in danger.

With this project, New Jersey is adopting Oure Cassoni Refugee Camp in Chad and aims to provide all the families there with a solar cooker. It has been demonstrated that once the need for women to leave refugee camps is reduced, the amount of violence committed against women and girls falls by over 80%.
