The Coalition, in partnership with Jewish World Watch, is inviting individuals, organizations, schools, and religious institutions throughout New Jersey to adopt the Oure Cassoni Refugee and assist in the efforts to provide each with a solar cooker.

The goal of the project is to protect refugee women and girls from rape and egregious forms of violence.  Women and girls who have fled the genocide in Darfur are vulnerable to rape while performing the critical task of collecting firewood for cooking.  Our mission is to reduce the frequency of these heinous crimes by providing women in refugee camps with an alternative cooking option.  Solar cookers enable women to remain within the relative safety of the camp by reducing their dependence on wood.  Violence against women has decreased by 89% in camps where solar cooker projects are implemented.

What you can do

By adopting the Oure Cassoni Refugee Camp and raising funds for the Solar Cooker Project, facilitated by the Jewish World Watch, you will not only work to protect women, but also provide them with opportunities for training, income and renewed pride and social connections.
